WRITERS BEWARE — SCAMMERS ARE AFTER YOU!!
OK — I was stupid irresponsible — a fool — AND SCAMMED!!
I knew that as writers we need to check out thoroughly all offers to promote or distribute our work, and I didn’t.
Weak excuse, but one to which you might relate? Last year, and continuing until the end of this month, we will have been extraordinarily involved in numerous things such that I did virtually no promotion of my book “Living Beyond — Making Sense of Near Death Experiences”. This was despite encouraging emails that I was sent — the book had helped the recently bereaved to cope, and two would-be suicides had also been helped, and comments on Amazon Books had all been 5-star. I wanted to get it “out there” to help others, but LIFE became insane and simply took over such that promotion stopped; consequently, I was vulnerable to unsolicited emails offering to do the promotion/distribution instead. You will find some of the names of scammers in Victoria Strauss’ excellent article that I will copy/paste below with her permission, and other scammers that are “outed” on the Writer Beware website.
However, like germs, the scammers are cloning themselves at an alarming rate and new ones appear regularly. I guess there are others like myself who hate the marketing and distribution side of writing and are prepared to pay others to do it for us. We want to WRITE…
